Tyler The Creator recently hopped on Twitter to give respect to the foundation Will.I.Am and the Black Eyed Peas laid with their ‘Behind The Front’ album, which was released 25 years ago. While doing that, Tyler took time to fire off a shot at Will.I.Am for a conversation they had years ago.

The producer and artist started by saying “will. i. am is still a dipstick BUT 25 years ago Behind The Front by the Black Eyed Peas (1998) released.” He noted it was one of the first hip-hop albums he owned and that he wrote his first rap at 7 years old because of a song featured on the album. Tyler then mentioned that the album was his intro to hearing Bossa Nova music and then said, “thank you for helping shape my ear and getting me started to write words down.”

While he paid homage, the “dipstick” jab at Will.I.Am stems from a conversation Tyler spoke about in a list of tweets from 2013, with the rapper saying the BEP frontman was “telling me about myself 10 years from now.” Tyler’s reaction found him saying he was going to go out of his way to prove him wrong. Since then, Will.I.Am took to Twitter to show love to Tyler for mentioning his influence. Take a look above.
