According to reports, NBA analyst Jalen Rose was let go from ESPN on Friday (June 30), according to the New York Post.
Other personalities like NFL analyst Keyshawn Johnson and Max Kellerman were laid off as well. ESPN is set to release 20 of their on-air personalities, which includes Jeff Van Gundy as well.
In a statement released addressing the news, ESPN said, “Given the current environment, ESPN has determined it necessary to identify some additional cost savings in the area of public-facing commentator salaries, and that process has begun.” ESPN didn’t name anyone specifically but went on to say, “This is an extremely challenging process, involving individuals who have had tremendous impact on our company. These difficult decisions, based more on overall efficiency than merit, will help us meet our financial targets and ensure future growth.” Stay tuned for more updates.
