A Colorado police officer has been dismissed from duty after video shows him punching a woman in the face who was handcuffed after she spit on him.
In the video, former Loveland, CO cop Russell Maranto, 28, is holding down a woman who was acting erratic after she was found wandering around in traffic. The woman, Angelia Hall, 58, relentlessly hurled insults at Maranto. “F***ing authority, b–tch, f***ing a**wipe, f***ing d–k. F***ing even don’t touch me,” she yelled.
Hall then spits directly on Maranto's chest, the second time she spit in his direction since being apprehended. Immediately after, Maranto instinctually punched Hall in the face.
“Oh, you f***ing piece of s***. See what he does?” Hall says after taking the blow. “I have my hands back, I can’t even fight back against that rust … I can’t even save my life.”
Just three days after the punch, Maranto was fired. The Loveland Police Department said in a statement that the former “officer responded with inappropriate use of force by striking the female in the face, causing minor injuries to her face.”
The Larimer County District Attorney’s office has yet to decide whether Maranto will face criminal charges.
