The FDA has approved the first round of human clinical studies for a brand of brain implants created by Elon Musk's Northern California-based neurotechnology company, Neuralink. The purpose of the groundbreaking medical device is to treat blindness, depression, autism, schizophrenia, paralysis, and more. He even believes his implants could potentially enable users to surf the internet with their minds. Nonetheless, there are some concerns, such as the potential for damage to the brain tissue that could be caused by the wiring.

Yesterday, the social media account manager for Neuralink took to Twitter to make the official announcement.

"We are excited to share that we have received the FDA’s approval to launch our first-in-human clinical study!" Neuralnk tweeted. "This is the result of incredible work by the Neuralink team in close collaboration with the FDA and represents an important first step that will one day allow our technology to help many people. Recruitment is not yet open for our clinical trial. We’ll announce more information on this soon!"
