Calls for an officer in Indianola, Mississippi, to be fired are being made after 11-year-old Aderrien Murry was shot in his home after calling 911 for help.

The incident happened when Aderrien's mother, Nakala Murry, asked him to call 911 when the father of another one of her children showed up at their home "irate" around 4 am on Saturday (May 20). Once the officer, identified as Greg Capers, arrived at the home, Nakala says Capers "had his gun drawn at the front door and asked those inside the home to come outside."

As Aderrien was coming around the corner of the home into the living room, Officer Capers shot the boy, hitting him in the chest. Aderrien's mother added, "Once he came from around the corner, he got shot. I cannot grasp why. The same cop that told him to come out of the house. (Aderrien) did, and he got shot. He kept asking, 'Why did he shoot me? What did I do wrong?'"

After being transported to the University of Mississippi Medical Center, Aderrien was placed on a ventilator and given a chest tube. His mother says he suffered a collapsed lung, fractured ribs, and a lacerated liver because of the shooting.

Officer Capers was placed on paid administrative leave while the shooting is investigated. The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation revealed it is "currently assessing this critical incident and gathering evidence."
