Legendary entertainer Tina Turner has passed away at the age of 83 following a long illness. Turner passed away in her home in Küsnacht near Zurich, Switzerland, according to her representative.

A statement was released on Turner's official Facebook page, which read, "It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Tina Turner. With her music and her boundless passion for life, she enchanted millions of fans around the world and inspired the stars of tomorrow. Today we say goodbye to a dear friend who leaves us all her greatest work: her music. All our heartfelt compassion goes out to her family. Tina, we will miss you dearly."

Turner was discovered by Ike Turner when she was just 17, and the two later married. Ike and Tina had hits such as "River Deep – Mountain High" and "Proud Mary" while performing as the duo Ike & Tina Turner Revue. Tina and Ike had a tumultuous marriage that ended in 1976, and their divorce was finalized two years later.

Tina went on to become a highly successful solo artist with Top 40 hits like "What's Love Got to Do with It," "Typical Male," "The Best," "Private Dancer," and "Better Be Good to Me." She won a total of 12 Grammys over the course of her career, and she is the only female artist to win a Grammy in the pop, rock, and R&B fields.

The 1993 Oscar-nominated film What's Love Got to Do With It saw Angela Bassett portray Turner, while Tina herself starred in Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome in 1985. Playing "Aunty Entity," Turner won an NAACP Image Award for "Outstanding Actress in a Motion Picture."

Tina is survived by her longtime partner, German music executive Erwin Bach and two sons of Ike's that she adopted.
