During an interview with HipHopDX at Lovers & Friends 2023, legendary producer Mannie Fresh gave his opinion on one of his classic cuts "Back That Azz Up" and how he interestingly puts it in the category of a love song.
He also railed against the current vibe in hip hop that doesn't provide room for having fun anymore since everyone is preoccupied with being gangster. “Like wait, y’all ain’t dancing no more? Y’all that gangsta?” Mannie asked. “I love when people smile and have fun, ain’t nothing wrong with that.”
However, the most important part of the interview wasn't just Mannie calling "Back That Azz Up" a love song but that it is “the greatest love song ever written,” which didn't require much explanation considering one knows the lyrics.
