The history of the solar death ray has been a subject of contention for centuries. Some historians attribute the device to Archimedes of Syracuse, a Greek engineer who died around 212 B.C. In contrast, others say that Augustin-Jean Fresnel, a French scientist who died in 1827, invented the solar death ray. Nonetheless, in recent years a growing number of patrons, including teenagers and parents, have developed homemade solar death rays from the comfort of their own homes. Joe Richards, a content creator and science expert, went viral this week with a home demonstration of a solar-powered death ray that he crafted. The temperature from his solar death ray burned so hot that it melted a rock down to lava within seconds.
