In Atlanta, the practice of "booting" someone's car is a legal ordinance that typically stems from violating the city's "Vehicle Immobilization" regulations. If a patron in Atlanta mistakenly or temporarily parks in a restricted area for any reason, their day could be ruined in a matter of seconds when they return to their vehicle and find an immobilizing boot locked onto one of their wheels. If a driver's car is "booted," they must pay a $75 booting fee within 24 hours or risk paying an additional $105 for the impounding and a daily Storage Fee of $15. In many cases, the accumulative amount of money owed for such an occurrence could result in an individual of low/no income losing their most critical possession in their lives. In response, a handful of "anti-booters" have emerged throughout the city, providing patrons in the Metro-Atlanta area with resources to unlock the boots; a practice that the Atlanta Police Department recently announced could be categorized as illegal trespassing and theft of service.
Nevertheless, a vigilante duo in the city is growing in popularity with their defiant and somewhat humorous method for combating "Booting and Towing." They're calling themselves "The Boot Girls of Buckhead." When someone is distressed about a vehicle immobilization boot, the ladies answer the call, arrive on the scene and remove it for $50.
