According to reports, an amateur MMA fighter is facing manslaughter charges after punching a US Air Force Airman causing him to die.
Jail records reflect Ross Johnson, 23, of Illinois was charged with manslaughter and is being held on a $250,000 bond.
Authorities in Panama City say Johnson and a group of friends got into a verbal altercation with another group leading to the attack on Air Force Airman 1st Class Dayvon Larry, 31.
Johnson landed a single blow behind the ear of Larry as he was left in the parking lot unconscious and unattended. Johnson apparently was amped behind the punch because he allegedly said “Man, I hit that guy,” adding, “I laid him out, and I think I killed him.”
An autopsy revealed Larry suffered a “3-inch skull fracture."
According to the New York Post, "Johnson was identified as a mixed martial artist with five wins and two losses, last fighting in 2021 and “three years of advanced fighting training.”
