In a matter of one year, Chris Rock has seemingly gone from a sympathetic figure that a large portion of the media, comedians, actors, professional athletes and fans sided with amid the "slap heard around the world" to a villainous character that has enraged Black women all over the country. Chris Rock: Selective Outrage recently premiered last week on Netflix, and with that came the long-awaited response from the iconic comedian/actor about the Will Smith incident at the 2022 Oscars. The vintage performance by Chris Rock covered many topics regarding Will Smith and his wife, Jada. Rock's no-holds-barred approach saw him making fun of Will and Jada in various low-down and dirty ways. The comedy special has since ignited controversy about whether or not Will Smith was justified in slapping Chris Rock. However, despite the backlash, it appears that Chris Rock has an ally who appreciates his signature brand of comedy even though he was mentioned. According to a source close to August Alsina, the R&B crooner appreciated the humorous sentiment, and he agreed.
“August watched the Netflix special, and he laughed,” said a source told the New York Post. “He thought it was not only funny but truthful. That was the best part for him...A lot of people spoke out against [Alsina],” said the source. “So he was happy to see that Chris Rock seemed to be advocating for the truth and not just making a joke.”
