It took a South Carolina jury just three hours of deliberation to convict former attorney Alex Murdaugh with the murders of his wife and son.

Murdaugh, 54, was found guilty of two counts each of murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. "Obviously, we're disappointed. But, until he's sentenced, we will have no further comment," said Murdaugh's attorney, Jim Griffin.

Conversely, the state's Attorney General Alan Wilson held a different tone as he remarked, "What a great day for the state of South Carolina."

According to the prosecution, "Murdaugh used a shotgun to kill his son, Paul, 22, inside a feed room attached to the dog kennels at the family's estate, Moselle, and a rifle to execute his wife, Maggie, 52, [on] June 7, 2021." Assistant Attorney General Creighton Waters argued Murdaugh carried out the murders to stave off "a devastating financial reckoning."

Though acknowledging his drug addiction and swindling his law firm and clients out of upwards of $8 million, Murdaugh maintained that he didn't murder his wife and son.

Murdaugh faces up to life in prison when he's sentenced.
