Earlier this week, a 23-year-old man named Deshawn Thomas was arrested by the St. Louis Metropolitan Police for first-degree murder after he allegedly shot his victim, David Saldana (40), execution-style in broad daylight. The on-camera incident took place around 10am, near 710 North Tucker Boulevard and Lucas Avenue in downtown St Louis. Footage depicts Saladana, who appeared to be a homeless man, sitting upright on the curb and looking straight ahead toward the street, while Deshawn patiently loaded his clip on the sidewalk before discharging his firearm.

The footage has since gone viral, and it has also ignited a collective sense of hysteria in downtown St. Louis because over the course of the past four years, a multitude of shootings have taken place near the ill-famed Shell gas station where Saldana was killed.

“Obviously, the loss of life is massive, but as a businessperson downtown, I’m also concerned about the effect this has on the economic activity in downtown St. Louis,” said local business owner Brad Waldrop. “What I understand is the altercation began at the Shell station. That doesn’t surprise me at all. There’s been 20 shootings at the shell station since 2019, and there’s been 600 calls for service. It should’ve been shut down a long time ago.”

As of it, it is unclear whether or not the shooter and the victim of the aforementioned incident knew each other before the fatal killing. For more news on this story, stay tuned.
