The Golden State Warriors is one of American professional sports' most forward-thinking, all-inclusive organizations. Not only has the team's head coach, Steve Kerr, spoke out against police brutality on numerous occasions, but the franchise even has an LGBTQ+ night for their fans. On the court, the dynastic era of the Steph Curry-led Warriors began with an NBA Championship in 2015. Andrew Bogut was a key rotational player on that team. Although he did not return to the Warriors after they were dethroned by the Cleveland Cavaliers the following year, Bogut remains a familiar face in 'Dub Nation.' The Australian-raised big man recently made headlines in his native country when he tweeted his displeasure about a gender identification form/drop-down menu that his son had to fill out to sign up for a youth soccer league. The forms displayed non-binary and genderfluid options in support of the LGBTQ+ community. A contemplation that Bogut didn't seem to want his 6-year-old child to be confronted with just yet.
"Signing our 6 YEAR OLD!, Once again, 6 YEAR OLD! up for soccer," Bogut tweeted. "Cmon [Football Australia]."
Shortly after the post, several Twitter users offered scathing rebuttals about the sentiment behind his words.
"That’s a standard form mate," responded a commentator. "Are you suggesting they adjust it just so the parents of 6yos don’t freak out at having to check a box?"
Others offered support for Bogut's viewpoint.
"You don't have to be a conspiracy person to see the agenda at work," wrote a supporter. "We have to fight back and crush the promoters of anyone trying to cripple kids with gender confusion.
