Diana Deets, a popular OnlyFans model who went as "Coconut Kitty" died by suicide, which was announced to her 5.4 million fans on Saturday (February 18).
The announcement read, "It’s unfair. Life is unfair. We wish you guys could get to know her the way her friends and family did. See, she was such a light to this world. Truly she was always glowing. You could never slow that girl down. She was so hard headed and strong, but also just so kind with the biggest heart we have ever known. She was always trying to lift everyone up around her. She wanted everyone to win."
Deets' age is unknown, as she claimed she was 24 for years. Rolling Stone did an article about Deets after it was discovered that she heavily edited her photos to make herself look younger, which led to claims that she was baiting pedophiles.
In the Rolling Stone article, Deets explained that she tried to make a living selling acrylic paintings, and when that failed, she created the "Coconut Kitty" character. Deets explained, "I wanted to make something that looked like a real-life anime character — small chin, big eyes — that was made in my likeness, because I use a picture of myself and I edit it. I just wanted to create a fantasy, just a character. And I was able to hide my identity and still make money off my art."
Deets, who had amassed a large following as a cam model, stated that Coconut Kitty "gave me an opportunity to disassociate myself" from the criticism she faced online. Deets also addressed claims that she was "grooming" and catfishing underage young women on social media to join OnlyFans. Deets denied the claims and explained that she was trying to hire a model to host a car event with her.
She stated, "I wouldn’t do anything in an unsafe environment, and I wouldn’t attend myself if I was unsafe. And I wouldn’t do that to someone else if it was unsafe for them."
The announcement of her passing alluded to Deets suffering from depression, as it stated that "She was always her true self with her family and friends. Her energy was so pure. And we wish so much that we could have taken some of the darkness that was weighing on her heart."
