The Denver Broncos' new ownership group, led by billionaire Rob Walton (the Heir to Walmart's fortune), is in the midst of landing a blockbuster deal for the former head coach of the New Orleans Saints, Sean Payton. According to multiple reports, the richest ownership group in the NFL will be sending the Saints their first-round pick from this year's draft, along with a second-round draft pick next year to acquire Sean Payton.

Last week it was reported that the Denver Broncos made a last-ditch effort to lure Jim Harbaugh away from his head coaching job at the University of Michigan before attempting to gauge the interest of the San Francisco 49ers' defensive coordinator, DeMeco Ryans. Both attempts were unsuccessful as Harbaugh chose to remain at his alma mater while DeMeco just agreed to a deal to become the head coach of the Houston Texans, a team he once played for as a two-time Pro Bowler. Nevertheless, the Broncos appear to have tabbed the right man for the job. Payton, a Super Bowl Champion (XLIV) and former Coach of the Year Award winner (2006) is considered an offensive guru who will soon be tasked with the responsibility of reviving an offense that finished 21st in yards per contest, which ranks dead last in AFC West. He will also be staring down the gauntlet of a highly competitive division that features this year's AFC Champions, the Kansas City Chiefs, and a Los Angeles Chargers team that made the playoffs. Perhaps his most challenging project will be to resurrect the play of the team's franchise quarterback, Russell Wilson. The $245 million dollar man is coming off the worst regular season of his career.

Details about Sean Payton's contract with the Denver Broncos are yet to have been released, but the price range for the 59-year-old is reportedly somewhere between $20-25 million per year. After the Saints and Broncos finalize the trade, Payon will fill the head coaching vacancy left behind by Nathaniel Hackett, who was fired after the team finished the season with a 5-12 record.
