On January 27th Jason Whitlock appeared as an interviewee on Tucker Carlson Tonight to weigh in on the tragic murder of Tyre Nichols at the hands of five members of the Memphis Police Department shortly after the bodycam footage was released. The sports journalist/political commentator indicated that the incident resulted from Black-on-Black crime, gang culture, and the inability of single Black mothers to properly raise young men.

“There is a racial element, and this is a story about young Black men and their inability to treat each other in a humane way" Whitlock said. "Everybody involved in this on the street level was either 24 to 32 years old. Everybody. It was a group of young Black men, five-on-one. [It] looked like gang violence to me. It looked like what young Black men do when they’re supervised by a single Black woman. And that’s what they got going on in the Memphis Police Department. They’ve elected some or put some Black woman in charge of the police force, and we are getting the same kind of chaos and disunity and violence that we see in a lot of these cities run by single mothers.”

Three days later, D.L. Hughley, host of The Daily Show on the Comedy Channel, clapped back at the 55-year-old during a segment about Tyre Nichols' murder.

“What the f*ck is he talking about? What is he — so it is a single black mother that had the problem. So wait a minute. All of these cops, all of them...they had a single black too? And by the way, those are the images that came up when I googled 'good cops.' If Jason Whitlock proves anything, it is that you do not have to be White to hate Black people. I can understand. How can we expect Jason to see the plight of Black people when this dude can’t even see his own d*ck?"
