Three NYC teens have been arrested for the murder of 17-year-old Nyheem Wright (pictured above), who died after being fatally stabbed on January 20 in front of his twin brother.
According to reports, Nyheem was blocks from his home on Mermaid Avenue in Coney Island when he got into an altercation with a 13-year-old, who is now being charged with the murder of Wright. A 14 and 15-year-old are facing assault and gang assault charges in the incident, but none of the suspects' names have been released due to them being juveniles.
Police were able to track down the three teens after following their movements on surveillance of the day of the incident. After the teen suspect and his mother surrendered to police, the 13-year-old reportedly confessed to the stabbing. Authorities also revealed that the fight with Wright was over a fight between two girls the day prior, but no further details were provided.
Under New York State law, the accused 13-year-old suspect will be tried in adult court but as a juvenile offender for the murder charge. He is facing a maximum sentence of nine years to life if he's convicted of the murder.
