In 2020, a woman named Rose Wakefield revealed she faced racial discrimination after a gas station worker in Beaverton, Oregon, reportedly told her, “I don’t serve Black people,” after refusing to gas her car up. Now, Wakefield has been awarded $1 million in damages by a jury in Multnomah County for the incident.

While speaking to the news, Wakefield noted the racist encounter made her want to talk to the management of Jacksons Food Stores. However, her complaints were never properly recorded or heard, according to her lawyer. While talking about the incident, Wakefield said, "I was like, ‘What world am I living in?' This is not supposed to go down like that. It was a terrible, terrible confrontation between me and this guy.”

It was noted the civil trial took place over the course of four days, where a jury decided Wakefield was racially discriminated against. As a result, she was awarded $1 million in damages. Wakefield said, “I didn't want this to happen to anyone else. It was a terrible scene, and no one should have to go through nothing like that.” Watch above.
