According to data from the Chicago Police Department, Chicago finished 2022 with approximately 2,600 shootings, even though they recovered over 12,716 guns from the streets. On the bright side of things, Chicago's homicide rate dipped slightly from 2021; however, this year has already gotten off to a bloody start. The first holiday weekend of the year yielded seven fatalities from gun violence and 21 people injured from gun-related incidents.
Automatic rifles are illegal to sell, purchase and carry in the state of Illinois. The state's biggest city, Chicago, also has a strict ban on assault weapons. That being said, a video clip of two alleged members of MBlock, a subsidiary of the Black Disciples, recently went viral. The footage displays them showing off an imposing variety of weaponry.
