It's been nearly six years since former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez passed away from an alleged suicide attempt in his prison cell. Before being arrested for the murder of Odin Lloyd, Hernandez was among the best tight ends in the NFL, during which time he was worth around $8 million. However, at the time of his death, his net worth was said to have been around $50,000. The 27-year-old left behind his fiancée at the time, Shayanna Jenkins-Hernandez, and their baby girl Avielle Janelle Hernandez.

Since Aaron's passing, Shayanna has had access to a trust fund that includes various revenue streams from the late NFL player to provide for their child. According to the trustee, attorney David Schwartz, Shayanna's spending habits have far exceeded Avielle's needs, which is why he recently declined her request to use money from Avielle's trust fund to pay a bill. Shayanna reportedly received around $150,000 a year from Aaron Hernandez's pension. Furthermore, when Schwartz outlined Shayanna's purchases from 2022, he concluded that she spent $25,577 in miscellaneous online shopping, $36,858 on clothes, approximately $11,792 for self-care, and nearly $40,000 on maternity clothing. The transactions also included visits to nail salons along with gym memberships. Shayanna and Schwartz are now interlocked in a legal battle to control Aaron's estate.

When Schwartz's legal representative, Robert O'Regan, commented on the matter, he was quick to outline the way in which Shayanna's spending in the present could affect Aaron's 10-year-old daughter in the future.

“There is reason to question whether the expenditures were for Avielle’s benefit,” said O’Regan. “To be fair, this little girl should have a decent life with what her father left for her. No one would complain if there were reasonable expenses. We’re talking about over-the-top or otherwise unrelated expenses to Avielle.”

Shayanna refutes the claims made by Schwartz's legal team, stating that her intentions with the money that Aaron left behind are meant for the betterment of Avielle's lifestyle and basic needs.

“Since Aaron’s death, my sole focus has been on raising and providing as stable a life for my children as possible,” Shayanna wrote. “All monies I have spent have been with this singular focus in mind, and this will continue to be my focus going forward.”
