Ja Morant was sued as a result of a basketball game played in July 2022 at his home in Tennessee. Morant allegedly was involved in the assault of a minor during a basketball game, according to the suit filed. The lawsuit was filed in Shelby County in September 2022, and the case has reportedly been sealed.

The lawsuit claims that a 17-year-old was playing a pickup basketball game with Morant at his home when they got into an argument. The argument between them verbally escalated, with the teen “accidentally” throwing a basketball at Morant that hit him in the face. Morant allegedly asked a bystander, “should I do it to him?” before hitting the teen “with a closed fist, knocking him to the ground.”

The teen alleges Morant kept hitting him, and another man also started hitting him. When speaking to police, Morant noted he did hit the teen, but it was in self-defense. Morant pointed out that the teen “intentionally” threw the ball at his face during their argument and pulled up on him “as if he wanted to fight.” Morant said the teen said he would “light his house up” while being taken off the property.

Police noted the DA declined prosecution since the case was submitted. As of now, the amount Morant is being sued for is unknown. Stay tuned for updates.
