According to reports, a Michigan mother has been charged with a felony after devising an elaborate catfishing scheme that was targeted at her daughter.
Kendra Gail Licari, 42, was arrested on Monday and charged with two counts of stalking a minor, two counts of using a computer to commit a crime, and one count of obstruction of justice.
Licari's arrest culminates a year-long investigation into the anonymous cyberbullying her daughter was subjected to. The investigation began in Dec 2021 after a complaint was issued regarding the ongoing cyberbulling of Licari's daughter and her then-boyfriend.
Olivia Land of The New York Post notes, "Licari was eventually identified as the culprit in late spring, when FBI analysts identified her IP addresses as those used to send the cruel messages." Isabella County Prosecutor David Barberi also revealed that in the wake of identifying Licari as the culprit his office has since compiled 349 pages of text and social media correspondence implicating her.
When confronted about being behind the cyberbullying scheme, Licari offered a full confession but did not provide a motive as to why she carried out the scheme.
