Recently, Los Angeles Councilman was heard making racist remarks in a leaked audio recording from October 2022 that found other council members saying racist things as well. Two of the council members ended up resigning, but de Leon issued an apology instead. Now, footage has surfaced of the councilman getting into a brawl with a man identified as Jason Reedy, an activist for a tenants rights group.
The footage shows de Leon slamming the man onto a table in a hallway as people try to get in between the two men to separate them. According to de Leon, Reedy headbutted him, which led to the incident. de Leon says “self-proclaimed activists” put hands on him during the “community holiday event to the dismay of a multitude of families and children who were there to celebrate a Christmas tree lighting and to receive toys and food.” Reedy’s attorney spoke to the Los Angeles Times following the incident, calling de Leon a “disgrace.” Watch above.
