In the latter part of November, Devanir Souza and his girlfriend, Leticia Gomes Santiago, went out for a walk along the beachfront of Ilha Comprida, São Paulo State, Brazil, before making a shocking discovery. The couple noticed what appeared to be the bones of gigantic hand protruding from underneath the sand. Initially, the pair became awestruck and horrified by the unusual sighting. But those feelings soon turned to intrigue as they pulled out their camera phones to document their new find. Although they did not understand who or what they were looking at, they concluded rather quickly that the hand did not belong to a human being.

"We think it is not human because of the size and amount of bones. What could it possibly be?" Leticia said [in Portuguese] as she purposefully avoided touching to skeletal hand, opting to use her flip-flops to prop it upward instead. "It's very big. We don't know what animal it is, and if it's an alien, even worse."

While many of their followers on social media suggested that the hand belonged to an extraterrestrial, a marine biologist named Eric Comin ascertained that the body part was simply an old flipper that was severed from an aquatic mammal, such as a dolphin, who likely passed away about a year and a half before the discovery. However, without a thorough examination, there is no way to confirm his presumption.
