Earlier this year, Drake was named in a copyright infringement lawsuit, but now the lawsuit has been dropped. Micheldeangelou “Angelou Skywalker” Perfvwaybelayou accused the Canadian rapper of stealing his song “Reach For Skies” to make the track “Way 2 Sexy” featuring Young Thug. The producer says Universal Music Group had access to his song via the UMG-owned website ‘Spinnup.’ However, the judge in the case says there weren’t enough similarities to determine that the songs were a match.
Judge Kollar-Kotelly said, “The court finds that while Plaintiff does allege ownership of a valid copyright, he does not allege facts to show Defendants’ access to Plaintiff’s song nor substantial similarity. The court grants the defendants’ motion to dismiss plaintiff’s complaint in its entirety.”
Along with that decision by the judge, Skywalker reportedly harassed prosecutors repeatedly, sending numerous emails to them. One of the motions filed by the producer found him saying, “Attached is a motion for ruling sent to you of this day 6/7/2022. Tell Aubrey that if he doesn’t show up, then I’ll become Adonis’s Dad one day while he’s off sniffing up other stinky butt bites thinking about the next way to set they pum-pump p***y on [fire].”
Because of the amount of emails along with threats sent by the producer, the defendants were forced to file an emergency motion for a protective order in June 2022.
