Nearly two months after setting the internet ablaze with a critically acclaimed and highly controversial series, DAHMER, Netflix appears to have struck gold again with their new Addam's Family spin-off called Wednesday. With an all-star cast of Jenna Ortega (as Wednesday Addams), Catherine Zeta-Jones (as Morticia Addams), and Luis Guzmán (as Gomez Addams), the dark-comedy was made available for streaming last week. It has already surpassed the record-setting viewership numbers (for one week) of an English-language TV show. An honor previously held by one of the platform's most popular shows, Stranger Things 4.

Directed by Tim Burton, Wednesday follows the sharp-tongued adolescent daughter of Gomez and Morticia Addams as she maneuvers her way through a supernatural world of murder, mystery, peculiar family dynamics, and high school drama at Nevermore Academy.

To put the successful start of the new show into perspective, it is worth noting that the series ranked amongst the top 10 most-watched shows in 93 countries last week, racking up a grand total of 341.23 million hours of streams. In contrast, the most recent season of Stranger Things garnered 335 million hours viewed during its first week of availability, while DAHMER brought in 299.8 million hours. Although Netflix has canceled popular shows after one season in the past, such as Punisher and Cowboy Bebop, there is a growing belief that the executive producers are already making plans for a follow-up season. This means Wednesday may have several chances in the future to break Netflix's all-time record for viewership in one week, which currently belongs to Squid Game (571.8 million).
