Will Smith has been promoting the upcoming release of a film titled ‘Emancipation,’ which he is starring in. During an interview on Fox 5’s ‘Good Day DC,’ the actor was asked what he would say to people who noted they aren’t ready to see Smith on screen due to him slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars. Smith responded by saying he would “respect” those people’s decisions.

Smith said, “I completely understand that if someone is not ready, I would absolutely respect that and allow them their space to not be ready.” The actor then spoke about his team, saying they are his “deepest concern.” Smith then spoke on director Antoine Fuqua, saying, “Antoine has done what I think is the greatest work of his career.” He continued, “The people on this team have done some of the best work of their careers, and my deepest hope is that my actions don’t penalize my team.”

Later in the clip, Smith concluded by saying, “I’m hoping that the good that can be done would open people’s hearts at a minimum to see and recognize and support the incredible artists in and around this film.” The movie is set to release on December 2. Watch above.
