Previously, Chris Brown revealed on social media that his performance at the American Music Awards was canceled. The singer said, “WOULDVE been the ama performance, but they [canceled] me for reasons unknown 🀷🏽‍♂️.” Despite being pulled from the show for what was supposed to be a tribute to Michael Jackson, Brown won an award for ‘Favorite Male R&B artist.’ Kelly Rowland made the award announcement and was immediately met by boos upon her saying the winner.

Rowland accepted the award on behalf of Brown and made a point to check people in the crowd following their booing. “Chris Brown isn’t here tonight, so I’m accepting this award on his behalf. Excuse me,” said Rowland before putting her finger up at the crowd. “Chill out,” said the singer. Rowland continued saying she would accept the award on Brown’s behalf, prompting cheers from the crowd. Watch above.
