U.S. Intelligence officials are currently investigating reports that Russian missiles struck Poland on Tuesday. The military strike reportedly hit the town of Przewodów, which borders the country that Russia is currently at war with, Ukraine. The Russian Defense Ministry has since called these reports a "provocation." Because Poland is a member of NATO and a known ally of the United States, the strike could prompt several other countries to get involved. Shortly after news of the strike in Central Europe, politicians from Poland held an emergency meeting at the Polish Embassy in Washington, D.C. The meeting is still in progress, and one of the key political leaders in attendance is the Polish Prime Minister, Mateusz Morawiecki. An unnamed member of NATO spoke directly about the matter and indicated that a tactical response with armed forces could be forthcoming.

"If a NATO ally is the victim of an armed attack, each and every other member of the Alliance will consider this act of violence as an armed attack against all members and will take the actions it deems necessary to assist the ally attacked."

The commentary refers to 'Article 5' of NATO's bylaws which stipulates that an attack on one member of the governing council is essentially an attack on all of them. Such talk, however, is very remindful of the events that led to World War I & World War II, a fate that people all over the world hope to avoid. Furthermore, if NATO were to enact 'Article 5,' all 30 members would have to agree to move forward with an act of war against Russia.

As the emergency meeting at the Polish Embassy continues, American intelligent officials are moving swiftly and cautiously while ascertaining details of the alleged Russian missile strike that could lead to substantial repercussions involving the entire world. For now, what needs to be determined is if the attack was intentional or if the missiles inadvertently crossed into Polish territory.

"We are aware of the press reports alleging that two Russian missiles have struck a location inside Poland on the Ukraine border,” said Pentagon Press Air Force Brigadier General Patrick Ryder. “I can tell you that we don’t have any information at this time to corroborate these reports and are looking into this further.”
