According to reports, a 43-year-old man named Dontrell Hanes was arrested after being accused of beating and kidnapping his ex-girlfriend over a lottery ticket in Cordova, Tennessee.
Hanes allegedly broke down the door of his ex-girlfriend’s house, kidnapped her, and attacked her. Police say the man was upset because he didn’t receive a lottery ticket and claimed she owed him money. The woman told police Hanes was mad “due to him not receiving his lottery ticket and money he felt he was owed.”
The man broke into the woman’s house, allegedly attacked her by hitting her with a closed fist, and choked her in the bathroom. The affidavit noted the woman couldn’t breathe for a few seconds. She told police Hanes was asking for money and dumped all her belongings inside her purse on the kitchen floor. From there, Hanes ordered the woman to go with him to transfer money into his bank account and tried to drag the woman to his car.
The man got the woman in his car and flashed a loaded handgun after saying he planned “to shoot up someone’s house.” Eventually, they went to Horn Lake, Mississippi, and stopped at a Burger King for food. During that stop, Hanes allegedly demanded that the woman pay him the $10,000 he claimed she owed. Eventually, the woman was able to call the police, which led to the man getting into an altercation after police caught up with them at a gas station.
Hanes was hit with 13 charges in total, nine of which were felonies. Some of the charges include being a convicted felon in possession of a handgun, possession of a firearm with intent to commit a dangerous felony, aggravated assault, aggravated burglary, and domestic assault.
