U.S. Customs and Border Protection recently announced that they recovered $18,694,838 worth of methamphetamine last Tuesday. Officers representing the federal entity discovered the narcotics at the World Trade Brigade in Laredo, Texas, by using a "heightened enforcement strategy." A pivotal juncture in the operation came when one of the officers on hand insisted on inspecting a 2010 International Pro Star tractor-trailer for a second time. On the outside, it appeared as though the vehicle was transporting paint buckets at the Laredo Port of Entry. But after a second look, CBP officers found 2,033 pounds of methamphetamine. Homeland Security is currently investigating the matter.

"This exceptional drug bust was an outstanding operation that highlights CBP’s commitment in combating the crimes carried out by transnational criminal organizations," said Laredo Port of Entry Port Director Albert Flores.

The discovery comes on the heels of a busy final week of October for CBP officers. Two weeks ago, they seized $407,208 in overall currency along with 1,770 rounds of ammunition from the 505,008 that were officially recorded.
