Update 10/28/2022 11:29am:
Rumors were swirling that Monica and Kodak Black were dating after the "So Gone" singer shared photos and videos of them hanging out. Things were fueled even further after Monica tweeted, "On a date, kinda nervous," which featured a photo of her in a Maybach. Many people believed the car belonged to Kodak, and Monica shared photos of them hanging out in a vehicle days prior.
After she was trending on Twitter amid the rumors, Monica addressed the situation on Twitter. Speaking about Kodak Black, real name Bill Kapri, and rapper Loe Shimmy, Monica wrote, "Bill & Shimmy My Heart … They know they can trust me with whatever & never have to doubt me!! Not every relationship is about messing or dating! I hang with their moms because I’m their age! LOL.. I’m gonna FOREVER love support & encourage them! They don’t play about me."

Back in 1998, a 17-year-old R&B singer named Monica dropped her best-selling single of all time, "The Boy is Mine." Kodak Black was one year old at the time. In the 20 years that followed the release of "The Boy is Mine," Monica never claimed another major award as a recording artist, although she remained relevant by publishing new music and appearing on various reality TV shows. Meanwhile, Kodak Black emerged as a "SoundCloud rapper" in the mid-2010s and has since become a generation-defining artist with a string of hits. Although their journeys to the mainstream happened decades apart, Monica and Kodak Black eventually crossed paths, and now it appears the two might be romantically linked.
Photos of Kodak Black and the recently divorced mother of two went viral this week, prompting many of their fans to speculate about a relationship, while others have pushed back, stating that they are merely friends. Amid the speculation, several commentators also questioned Monica's choice to go on a date with a rapper seventeen years younger than her, who also has a highly publicized criminal record after having divorced former NBA player Shannon Brown (in 2019). In contrast, others were quick to point out a few similarities between Kodak Black and Monica's ex-boyfriend C-Murder.
