Previously, it was revealed that the family of George Floyd was mulling over if they should file a lawsuit against Kanye West for comments he made about Floyd while on ‘Drink Champs.’ West claimed Floyd died from fentanyl, not a knee to the neck from former officer Derek Chauvin.

Now, a lawsuit has been formally announced in response to comments West made about Floyd. Via a press release on Tuesday, it was revealed that a suit was filed against West, and the services of Witherspoon Law Group were retained to make a move.

Attorney Pat Dixon III spoke on the matter, saying, “Kanye’s comments are a repugnant attempt to discount George Floyd’s life and to profit from his inhumane death.” Dixon also said the move was to hold West “accountable” for “flagrant remarks” against the slain Floyd. Representation for the family accuses West of “harassment, misappropriation, defamation, and infliction of emotional distress.” West isn’t the only one being called out, as “business partners” and “associates” were mentioned. Since airing, the Kanye West episode of ‘Drink Champs’ has been removed from distribution. Stay tuned for more updates.
