Republican Georgia Senatorial candidate Herschel Walker was trending after his debate with incumbent Sen. Rapheal Warnock when he pulled out a prop police badge in response to Warnock calling him out for falsely claiming to be a cop. "One thing I have not done ... I've never pretended to be a police officer," the Senator said, "And I never threatened a shoot-out with the police."
It's important to note, Walker was named an "honorary deputy" in Cobb County but the distinction holds no actual power. As for the "shoot-out" comment, Warnock was referring to "a new AP report that in 2001, Walker's therapist called police in Irving, Texas, saying he was "volatile," armed and scaring his estranged wife. The officers went to his suburban Dallas residence and later said Walked had "talked about having a shoot-out with police.'"
The moment when the 1982 Heisman Trophy winner flashed the fake badge he was swiftly cut off by the debate moderator who scolded him for using a prop during the debate. As the moderator explained, props are forbidden during official debates and those rules were clearly articulated before Walker's debate with Warnock commenced.
