Three high-ranking leaders in the MS-13 gang have been convicted of orchestrating a string of murders that occurred in Virginia and Maryland. Upon a joint investigation by the FBI, the DEA, Homeland Security Investigations, the Justice Department, and local police, it was determined that Luis Flores-Reyes (41), Brayan Contreras-Avalos (27), and Jairo Jacome (40) were also involved in racketeering, extorting businesses and drug distribution. According to reports, a fair amount of the gang's revenue was sent back to El Salvador, a Central American country where many of their parents descend from.

All of the criminal activity listed above warranted federal charges for the three men. But one of the most conspicuous aspects of the aforementioned killings is the case of the 14-year-old high school, who was kidnapped and butcher in the woods. While most of the trio's victims were rival gang members, the majority of their fatalities were just minors.

The assailants, Contreras-Avalos, Jacome, and Flores-Reyes, all face life sentences in prison.
