Update 09/27/2022 12:20pm:

According to reports, Shakira will have to stand trial in her $13.9 million tax evasion case. The artist previously rejected a settlement offered to her, so her case was pushed to be settled in court.

Since then, it has been noted prosecutors have pushed to pursue further legal action against the pop star. Shakira denied any wrongdoing in the situation and issued a statement via a PR firm saying she paid what she owed plus $3 million in interest.

In May 2022, a court in Spain dismissed Shakira’s appeal, which upholds a ruling from July 2021 where a judge said there was “sufficient evidence of criminality.” While speaking to PEOPLE, a rep for Shakira said the artist is “confident in her innocence.” Stay tuned for more updates.

Allegations against pop star Shakira arose, claiming she did not pay taxes to the Spanish government from 2012 to 2014. Shakira has rejected a settlement offered to her, and her situation will be settled in court. Now, sources claim Shakira is trying to exit Spain, and head to Miami.

The pop star is reportedly in a custody battle with the father of her children and ex, Barcelona FC soccer player Gerard Piqué, and is facing up to eight years in jail if found guilty of tax fraud.

Family friend and Douglas Elliman realtor Ana Martinez spoke on Shakira’s possible move to Miami, saying, “Miami is her home. Her parents live here, her brother lives here, her niece and nephew, too. She doesn’t have any family in Spain. It’s a different environment from Barcelona.” As of now, Shakira’s children are staying with Piqué after a temporary truce granted him custody for half of the month. Stay tuned for more updates.

Legendary Latin/Pop singer Shakira is in a dire legal predicament that could land her in prison for up to eight years after she allegedly neglected to pay the Spanish government taxes from 2012 to 2014. Although the "Queen of Latin Music" is a renowned Columbian native, she bought a home in the Pedralbes neighborhood of Barcelona, Spain, back in 2012, where prosecutors claim she spent at least half of her time, over the course of the next three years that followed. According to a recent indictment, which features six charges against her, the Spanish government claims that the 12-time Latin Grammy Award winner owes them 14.5 million euros due to her crimes. It is also being reported that prosecutors may also seek a fine of 24 million euros. This notion clearly didn't sit well with Shakira, as she reportedly rejected their offer for a settlement deal last week. Instead, this legal matter will be settled in court. No trial date has been scheduled as of yet.
