Last February, a Spokane, Washington resident named Kylie Ruby Flores decided that instead of putting her six-year-old daughter up for adoption, she would rather sell her off to a stranger for a pair of sneakers and a small amount of cash. The criminal act resulted in her daughter being harmed and severely traumatized, followed by her arrest and a 23-year sentence in prison for sex trafficking. According to reports, Flores met a man named Trever Harder through an online dating app called Plenty of Fish (POF), shortly thereafter, the two brokered a repugnant deal for Harder to acquire Flores' daughter. When law enforcement obtained footage of the tasteless events that followed in Harder's apartment, both adults were arrested upon pleading guilty in court over the next few months.
“The facts of this case present some of the most egregious s*****l abuse of a child one can imagine,” US Attorney Vanessa Waldref (Eastern District of Washington) said in a statement shortly after the ruling was made on Wednesday.“Today’s sentence is important, but it is equally important to remember that Flores’ sentence will likely be much shorter than the lifelong impact on the child...No sentence can return the child’s innocence, but our community is now safer and stronger.”
This case was executed by Project Safe Childhood, a subsidiary of the U.S. Department of Justice. Harder has yet to have been sentenced for his role in the crime.
