Russell Simmons addressed DJ Akademiks’ comments where he called hip-hop pioneers “broke and dusty.” Simmons went on to call out Akademiks by questioning how many people he has turned into millionaires as he has. Now, Akademiks has fired back at Simmons with comments via Twitter.
Akademiks called out Simmons, going at the allegations against him, saying, “Hey brother, I know you evacuated the United States after ppl had serious questions about you… you’ve been residing in Bali.. but u do have a few questions about me. I love you and respect you. Let's have this public discourse … ask me what u want ..I got a few for u 2.”
Another tweet found the personality saying Simmons was now “mute.” Akademiks said, “Russell Simmons is packed up. Now the rest of u hypocrites let’s talk. What time is it in Bali…. I got a few ppl who wanna talk to Russell Simmons… wake his a** up. U had time to address Big Ak. Address this other s**t too king.”
Simmons reportedly delivered an apology to Akademiks via Instagram, which caused Akademiks to screenshot the message and speak about it on Twitter. “This what I hate about hip hop. All these dudes pile on.. until u bring out their skeletons then it’s oh I didn’t wanna offend u. Are we talking or na? I love u @unclerush but the same way quick to [judge] me and my character .. at least I wanna talk to u about u,” said the personality. Take a look above.

Russell Simmons took time out to address DJ Akademiks after catching some strays from the online personality who called hip hop pioneers "broke and dusty."
Simmons called Akademiks' cultural and economic impact into question by asking how many people he's made into millionaires like he has. Throughout the five-minute scathing take-down of Akademiks, Simmons wraps up by wishing the social media giant well.
Needless to say, Akademiks remarks have touched a soft spot for many in the hip hop space and will likely spark an on-going conversation.
