Lizzo recently hit the MTV VMAs stage to accept an award, and during her speech, she called out people who were criticizing her in the press. The rapper said “Now, to the b**ches that got something to say about me in the press … I’m not gonna say nothing! Why don’t you clap back? Because b**ch, I’m winning.” Many thought the message Lizzo delivered during her speech was intended for Aries Spears, who made viral comments about her body. Since then, Lizzo took to Twitter to clarify who she was speaking about. 

Via Twitter, Lizzo said “Lemme make one thing VERY clear— I wasn’t addressing anybody in my speech last night.. I was addressing EVERYBODY.” Take a look above.

Aries Spears previously went viral for speaking on Lizzo, saying her music was good, but she looks like the “s**t emoji” on the iPhone. Since then, Mike Epps and Spears got into an exchange of words over the remarks. Now, Lizzo has fired back with some words of her own while accepting an award at the 2022 MTV VMAs. 

Lizzo hopped on stage to accept an award in the Video For Good category for her song “About Damn Time.” While on stage, Lizzo zeroed in on people who had been criticizing her in the press. “So, remember when you’re voting for your favorite artists, vote to change some of these laws that are oppressing us. Now, to the b**ches that got something to say about me in the press … I’m not gonna say nothing! Why don’t you clap back? Because b**ch, I’m winning,” said the artist.

The artist posted the video of her speech to Twitter, along with the caption: “KEEP MY NAME IN YO MOUF CUS I KNOW IT TASTE GOOD B**CH.” Watch above.

Lizzo has been at the forefront of the body positivity movement as many plus sized people, women in particular, are embracing their shapes and becoming less self conscious about what they wear in public. 

But that doesn't mean their body positivity protects them against continuing to be the source of some people's jokes. Take for instance Aries Spears who recently roasted Lizzo on the Art of Dialogue. During the interview, Spears talked about LIzzo having a pretty face but the body of the "poo" emoji on iPhones.

He also said her body looks like a plate of mashed potatoes and welcomed whatever internet ire is sure to come his way as a result of his comments.
