In 2018, a Puerto Rican rapper/singer named Bad Bunny quickly emerged as a mainstream artist with his debut album, X 100pre. The classic reggaeton/Latin trap LP earned him critical acclaim, including a rarefied spot on Rolling Stone's Top 100 Debut Albums of All Time list. Since then, he has become a top 10 artist in terms of Spotify streams and a top 20 artist in terms of subscribers on YouTube. Bad Bunny's success as an entertainer has been highlighted by non-music endeavors as well. Last year, he co-starred in Narcos: Mexico as a Tijuana Cartel member named Everardo Arturo "Kitty" Paez. In addition, he reigned as the 24/7 Champion of the WWE for 28 days. Needless to say, the 28-year-old has a knack for making headlines and delivering content that's backed with substance.

So, when the iconic recording artist rolled out his performance of “Tití Me Pregunto,” at Yankee Stadium as a part of last night's MTV Music Video Awards, it included a show-stopping moment when he kissed a male backup dancer on stage. This happened shortly after fellow Puerto Rican superstar Carmelo Anthony presented him with the "Artist of the Year" award, making him the first Latino recording artist to accomplish such a feat. The smooch has since gone viral, and it has already drawn comparisons to Madonna's iconic kiss with Britney Spears at the VMAs in 2003. But for Bad Bunny and many of his supporters, such as his wife of five years, Gabriela Berlingeri, this occurrence signifies another outward display of solidarity that the singer has shown for the LGBTQ+ community since becoming an advocate for their rights. While Bad Bunny has maintained that he is straight, he is considered an icon in the LGBTQ+ community in his native country of Puerto Rico because of his tireless effort to bring more awareness to their social causes.
