In March of 2020, a woman publically identified as "Jane Doe" filed a sexual misconduct lawsuit against former Houston Texans' star quarterback Deshaun Watson. In the two and a half years that followed, more than 20 other women would follow suit in a highly publicized legal quandary that would forever tarnish the image of a man who does not have a criminal record to speak of.
At the behest of the NFLPA, the National Football League suspended the three-time Pro-Bowl quarterback was suspended for 11 regular season games. The punishment was handed down to Watson on August 18th, and it also includes a record-setting $5 million fine. Although NFL Commissioner Rodger Goodell called Watson's actions "predatory" and "egregious," the fact of the matter remains that the 26-year-old did not break any laws or commit any crimes; technically.
So, naturally, several fans still support the young signal caller who maintained his innocence as recently as last week. A Cleveland Browns fan and his preadolescent son recently went viral after they endorsed their team's free agent signee with two signs that read "F*** Them H**s," and "Free Watson." While this interesting display of "father-son time" doesn't speak for all Cleveland Browns fans, their action speaks to a larger issue amongst their community because many of them seem to be conflicted regarding the legal matter.
