Murder Inc’s docuseries on BET have started, and details related to the storied label’s beginnings have already come about. One of the stories that arose found Jay-Z candidly speaking on how Irv Gotti’s nickname came to be.
Jay-Z, who rarely does interviews, took time to tell the story, laughing at Irv’s name in the process before revealing how he came up with it. “I remember snappin' on Irv, like, 'Your name is 'Irving,'” said Jay-Z. He continued saying, “'Man, get outta here. Irving?' And everybody laughing, ha ha ha.” Jay-Z then expressed to Irv that he needed a name to “toughen” up his appearance. As a result, Jay-Z said, “Yo you need a name like… Irv Gotti.” Immediately after that, Irv chimed in, saying, “And like everything that Jay does, it stuck.” Take a look above.
