Rod Wave sat down with Complex and spoke about his collaboration with Drake, which he ultimately declined after trying to take a shot at recording vocals for it.

The rapper said it was his dream to work with Drake but cited “cold feet” after attempting to record vocals to what would become “Lemon Pepper Freestyle.” Rod Wave said it took him a week just to think of something to record to the track but ultimately scrapped his verse. Rod was then asked if he thought Drake was upset, noting he didn’t think that was the case. Since then, Drake responded to the clip, calling Rod Wave’s intention “real artistry.”

Via Instagram, Drake mentioned Rod Wave and then said, “this is an act of true respect. I could never be upset this is some real artistry and holding yourself to a standard where you don’t bend for anybody just cause they are somebody, much love for ya, brada.” Take a look above.
