Chaos erupted in the western Mexico state of Jalisco as cartel members burned over two dozen stores and various cars after several cartel figures were arrested.

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador revealed that soldiers confronted cartel members, including bosses, during a "meeting of two gangs" on Tuesday (August 9). The confrontation led to a shootout and arrests, which in turn resulted in mass destruction in both Jalisco and the neighboring state of Guanajuato.

Oxxo, a national chain of convenience stores, revealed that 25 of its stores in Guanajuato were either partially or totally burned during the incident. The company added, "Fortunately, all of our employees and customers are all right."

Jalisco Gov. Enrique Alfaro provided an update on the situation via Twitter, revealing that "the situation is under control." He added that five people were arrested in the raids and one suspect was killed.
