According to reports, the city of Vincent, AL is disbanding its police department following allegations that an officer on the force sent racist text messages to other officers.
Vincent Mayor James Latimore said last week that Vincent Police Department Chief James Srygley and Assistant Chief John L. Goss would be dismissed for their connection to the incendiary message.
“What do y’all call a pregnant slave?” the message allegedly read. The officer at the center of the racist joke reportedly replied after not getting any satisfying answers, “BOGO Buy one, get one free.”
Mayor Latimore noted that a city council meeting last week came to “a resolution with intent to pass an ordinance to disband the police department.” The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office has since issued a statement stating that it would now be “handling all law enforcement emergency calls for service” for the Vincent area.
