DeMarcus Cook, a young man who once famously survived a drive-by shooting, has been arrested for gunning down a high school football player named Isiah Hernandez. The fatal incident took place on Tuesday in the Little Havanna neighborhood in Miami, Florida, when Cook, the 18-year-old brother of Vikings star Dalvin Cook, drove to Hernadez's house to purchase some weed. According to reports, as Cook pulled up to the curb, he had no intention of purchasing the marijuana outright. Instead, he aimed to rob Hernandez. The alleged robbery attempt was successful, but not before Cook shot the 17-year-old seller multiple times before making the dash with the stolen goods. Hernandez's father was inside their home when he heard the commotion and ran outside to check on his son.
"I came outside, my son on the floor, gushing with his last breath — was his life, and you, as a parent, can't do nothing but try to save him, and you don't succeed," said Orlando Hernandez.
It didn't take law enforcement very long to connect the dots and nab their suspect because when they ascended upon Cook's home, they quickly recovered the murder weapon and the stolen marijuana. The perpetrator is now being held in jail without bail, his attorney claims that his actions were in self-defense.
