In this clip, John Salley saw the Jerry Rice chicken helmet commercial for Popeye’s Chicken for the first time. This sparked a larger discussion around racist stereotypes and how entertainers/athletes are often placated as the stereotype in many commercials. Salley even recounted being offered $35K to star in a chicken commercial despite the fact that he doesn’t eat meat or poultry.
