It wasn't that long ago when an up-and-coming mixed martial arts organization called the UFC gained unwanted attention from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) en route to becoming one of the premier combat-sports-based companies worldwide. Now that the UFC is a worldwide brand that has kicked the proverbial door down, sports fans live in the golden age of extreme fighting sports. In addition to having various MMA leagues to support, several other like-minded leagues such as PFC (Pillow Fight Championship) and Slap Fighting Championship have emerged to provide blood-thirsty sports fans with alternative ways of being entertained. But it looks like the country of Russia may have taken this concept to a whole new level.

Event planners in the largest country in Europe recently hosted an event called the "Walk the Field," where two teams featuring 600 fighters each lined up on opposite sides of the area before meeting midfield for an all-out brawl. The organized event took place just outside of Moscow, and it was totally legal. Fighters from both teams wore gloves (one team wore yellow jerseys, and the other team wore black jerseys) and uniforms to distinguish their teammates from the opposition. Some of the fighters opted to wear headgear, but most of them did not. According to reports, the massive 1200-man fight was a unique way for the participants to honor the 450-year anniversary of an infamous conflict known as "The Battle of Molodi," which involved the country's legendary warrior, Ivan the Terrible.
