"The Weather Channel" in Des Moines, Iowa, is facing an insurmountable wave of criticism after they broadcasted a graphic to their viewers that read, "This is your weather my N*ggers." The incident occurred during a routine segment of the show called "Local on the 8s." Although the image was only seen by local viewers at the time, once the photo surfaced on social media, it went viral, causing a national PR nightmare for the management team at The Weather Channel. Since then, officials at The Weather Channel in Des Moines have claimed that they accidentally showed the image after it was produced by someone outside of their organization without their knowledge.

"This ['imagine] did not originate with us, and we are in the process of investigating it further," wrote a  spokesperson in a tweet. "

Later, the Weather Channel furthered its viewpoint with an official statement, including an apology, on Facebook.

"A graphic during the Weather Channel cable network's 'Local on the 8s' presentation in Des Moines last evening included a racial slur...We removed this graphic as soon as we learned of it. This did not originate with us, and we are in the process of investigating it further. We apologize to our viewers."
